Scott McCloud made comics history with UNDERSTANDING COMICS, the first book to present a theory of the artform that fully embraced all aspects, styles, and possibilities of the medium.
Among its many accomplishments was that the book itself was one of the most ambitious uses of the comics form as a means to convey and teach factual information and abstract ideas (matched only by Larry Gonick's wonderful CARTOON HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSE.)
His new book, REINVENTING COMICS is presented in a style parallel to the original book (including the presence of McCloud himself as the narrator) and takes off from its solid beginnings to explore the changing landscape of the comics artform and marketplace.
Part one of the new book explores comics as art, literature, and commerce. Part two delves into the new challenges and opportunities for comics in the digital age, including computer-generated images and the growth of the internet.
McCloud has established himself as one of the most innovative and progressive thinkers about the comics medium, and this new book is enthusiastically anticipated!
